Ancient Roots

Here you’ll find the story behind holistic healing practices where they began, how they evolved, and why they still hold meaning in today’s world of well-being and self-discovery

History

Reiki is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. It was developed by Mikao Usui, who is credited with rediscovering and systematising the practice after a period of spiritual study and meditation.

The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words: “Rei,” meaning universal, and “Ki,” meaning life energy. Together, it refers to the idea of universal life force energy that flows through all living things.

Usui taught Reiki as a method of healing through gentle touch and energy transfer, aiming to support balance in the body, mind, and spirit. From Japan, the practice gradually spread to the West through students and teachers who adapted it into different lineages.

Today, Reiki is practised worldwide as a complementary therapy, often used alongside other holistic approaches to support relaxation, emotional balance, and overall wellbeing

Indian Head Massage originates from traditional Ayurvedic practices in India, a system of holistic healing that has been practised for thousands of years. Within this tradition, massage was used as part of everyday life to support balance, wellbeing, and self-care.

The practice as it is known today was adapted and refined in India, where head, neck, and shoulder massage were commonly used to relieve tension and promote a sense of calm within the body.

In the late 20th century, Indian Head Massage was introduced to the West, where it was further developed into a structured treatment while still drawing on its Ayurvedic roots and traditional techniques.

Today, it is widely recognised as a complementary therapy rooted in ancient Indian wellness traditions.

Crystal Healing

Crystal healing has origins in ancient civilisations, where crystals and gemstones were used within spiritual and cultural practices across Egypt, China, India, Greece, and Indigenous traditions. These stones were often associated with protection, balance, and supporting wellbeing on a spiritual level.

Within these traditions, crystals were used in rituals, adornment, and healing practices to support harmony, intention, and connection to nature and self.

In more recent times, crystal healing has been embraced within modern holistic wellness, where it is used as a complementary practice alongside meditation, mindfulness, and energy-based therapies.

Today, crystal healing is widely recognised as a gentle, supportive wellbeing practice rooted in ancient traditions and adapted for modern holistic living.
